Norway: Krekar arrested after threatening to kill former PM

A day after he was sentenced to five years in jail for issuing death threats, radical Kurdish Islamist Mullah Krekar was arrested at his home in Oslo on Tuesday by Norwegian security police.

The Norwegian Security police, PST, said they wished to question Krekar about threats he is alleged to have made last weekend against Norwegian interests abroad, including police officers, on the paltalk.com web forum.

Krekar told his followers that if he's arrested or imprisoned, they can take revenge against Norway and Norwegians at home and abroad: including police officers, intelligence people and regular Norwegians. Krekar also threatened that former PM Kjell Magne Bondevik 'will be killed in Somalia'. Bondevik is currently in the Middle East and was informed of the threats.

A group of Kurds belonging to the banned Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) was arrested in Venice on Tuesday on suspicion of extorting money to use for armed operations in their native Turkey.

The suspects are accused by Italian investigators of using violence to force Kurdish immigrants living in northern Italy to pay a ''revolutionary tax'' to fund the PKK's fight against Turkey.

European politicians have been continuing to voice their condemnation of an attack on the Zaman daily's office in France last week by terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) supporters.

A group of PKK supporters attacked Zaman's offices in Paris and Cologne last Wednesday, threatening newspaper staff and causing property damage to the buildings.

Jean Philippe Maurer, the deputy chairman of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) ruling party and deputy for the Bas-Rhin region, condemned the attack on Wednesday, saying it was the third attack the newspaper had suffered in the past six months.

Italy: Anti-terrorism police arrest Turkish Hezbollah suspects

Italian anti-terrorism police on Tuesday arrested several members of a cell they believe belongs to the militant Sunni Islamic group Turkish Hezbollah.

The people arrested in the central city of Terni are suspected of being involved in smuggling Kurdish and Palestinian migrants into Italy with false documents.
